  • Hailed as a masterpiece of 21st century dance' from English National Ballet, Akram Khan’s Giselle will be coming exclusively to Eden Cinemas on the 25th and 29th of April. Recognised as one of the greatest romantic ballets, Giselle has been re-imagined by celebrated choreographer Akram Khan, with Artistic Director and Lead Principal of English National Ballet, Tamara Rojo, dancing the role of Giselle, one of a community of migrant workers cast out of their jobs in a condemned garment factory.

    His first full length ballet, Khan’s Giselle features set and costume designs from Academy Award-winning designer Tim Yip, known for his work on the hit film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and an adaptation of the original Adolphe Adam score by composer Vincenzo Lamagna, orchestrated by Music Director, Gavin Sutherland and performed live by English National Ballet Philharmonic. Giselle also features dramaturgy from Ruth Little and lighting design from Mark Henderson.

    The ballet has won an Olivier Award, the South Bank Sky Arts Award for Dance, and Akram Khan won the 2017 Critics’ Circle National Dance Award for Best Classical Choreography for Giselle. The production has received rapturous 5-star reviews and was sold out when performed at London's Sadler's Wells. This is the first time an English National Ballet production has been filmed for cinema, extending the reach of the company beyond its existing national and international touring programme.

    Filmed live at the Liverpool Empire in October 2017, Akram Khan’s Giselle is directed for the screen by Ross MacGibbon.

  • Tumble down the rabbit hole with The Royal Balletthis autumn with Christopher Wheeldon’s exciting Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland live at Eden Cinemas on Monday 23 October at 8.15pm.

    The original cast takes to the screen in this madcap adaptation of Lewis Caroll’s story. Exuding a girlish charm, Alice, danced by British Principal Lauren Cuthbertson, is joined by a host of familiar characters including the jittery White Rabbit, the eccentric, tap-dancing Mad Hatter, the enigmatic Caterpillar and the ferocious Queen of Hearts.


    This much-loved story is reimagined with quirky designs by Bob Crowley as we follow Alice into Wonderland across a lake of tears, playing croquet with flamingos and attending a deranged tea party. Drawing upon a wealth of theatrical effects, including projection and puppetry, Crowley creates a mesmerising world of enchantment from the grinning Cheshire Cat to the sinuous Caterpillar with his 16 legs of ballet dancers en pointe.


    A feast for the senses, Wheeldon’s spectacular ballet brings to life Carroll’s famous story with a menagerie of colours, characters and compelling choreography, whilst Joby Talbot’s lively score provides the perfect accompaniment to the ballet.

  • Take a voyage to Bohemia with The Royal Ballet this February with Christopher Wheeldon’s production of The Winter’s Tale, live at Eden Cinemas on Wednesday 28 February at 8.15pm, followed by an encore show on Sunday 4th March at 3pm.

    Wheeldon’s adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play features British Principals Lauren Cuthbertson and Edward Watson dancing the parts of Hermione and King Leontes, with Sarah Lamb and Steven McRae returning to the roles of Perdita and Florizel.


    With designs by Bob Crowley, this production distils the essence of Shakespeare’s dramatic narrative, contrasting the stark, brooding atmosphere of King Leontes’ Sicilian court with the vivid colour and pastoral charm of Bohemia. Complete with colourful costumes and mesmerising stage effects, Wheeldon’s production is widely acclaimed as a modern classic, tracing an emotive journey of redemption and reconciliation as a compelling dance-drama.


    Set to Joby Talbot’s eclectic score, The Winter’s Tale was created for The Royal Ballet in 2014, revived in 2016 and performed in Brisbane as part of the annual international tour in 2017. Nominated for an Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance, the production won the 2014 Critics’ Circle National Dance Award for Best Classical Choreography.

  • The opening night of The Royal Ballet’s The Nutcracker will be screened live at Eden Cinemas on Tuesday 5 December at 8.15pm with an encore screening on Sunday 10th December.

    A firm family favourite with Tchaikovsky’s mesmerizing score, a Christmas tree that magically grows, a battle between toy soldiers and an Army of Mice, and the famous role of the Sugar Plum Fairy danced by Royal Ballet Principal Sarah Lamb with her Prince, Principal dancer Steven McRae, this event presented by Darcey Bussell is not to be missed.

    Peter Wright’s enchanting production tells the story of Clara, danced by Royal Ballet Principal Francesca Hayward, whose Christmas is transformed by a visit from Drosselmeyer, a mysterious magician and maker of magical toys. Drosselmeyer longs to break a curse that has turned his nephew, danced by Australian Principal Alexander Campbell, into a nutcracker doll.

    Matched with exquisite designs and world-famous melodies, this production of The Nutcracker has enthralled audiences for over 30 years since its opening in 1984. It showcases the full energy of the Company, alongside the emerging talent of young dancers from The Royal Ballet School. The stunning costumes, numbering around 600 and dating back to the world-premiere, are revitalized for the show.

    Tickets for The Nutcracker are being sold at €18 for adults and €10 for individuals under the age of 16.
