  • On Wednesday 17th January, 89.7 Bay announced the launch of its new Making Malta Green & Clean campaign. This nationwide campaign aims to urge the population to take action to make Malta a cleaner and greener place.

The main pillars of the MMGC campaign are: Littering; Dog Fouling; Recycling and; Waste Separation. Multiple efforts will be made throughout this campaign to increase awareness on these issues and encourage the population to make Malta Greener and Cleaner together.

Research shows that tackling environmental crime such as street litter, fly tipping, dog fouling and graffiti is not just about enforcement. We also need to encourage and educate everyone to do the right thing and 'do their bit' to make Malta cleaner and greener, which is what MMGC will strive to achieve.

At the press conference, Mr. Kevin DeCesare, Director of 89.7 Bay stated: “Making Malta Green and Clean will encourage people to love where they live - and to take pride in their street, town or village by keeping it clean and tidy. Our multi-media campaign will be heavily promoted on radio, in newspapers and online - urging residents, community groups, schools and businesses to take action to make their neighbourhoods cleaner and greener places to live and visit.”

Owned and operated by Malta’s leading entertainment company, Eden Leisure Group and with the largest percentage of radio listeners on the island and almost 1,000,000 Facebook fans, 89.7 Bay has the reach to make a difference and clean up the Maltese environment. As part of this campaign, an informational website has been set up: www.mmgc.com.mt informing website visitors how they can make a difference and urging them to get involved.

This campaign is organised with the support of: GSD Marketing Ltd; Cleansing Services Directorate; Ministry for Tourism; InterContinental Malta; Eden Leisure Group; Wasteserv; Ministry for the Environment, Sustainable Development & Climate Change; KSU.

Ms Azzopardi said, “I am excited to join one of Malta’s leading hospitality and entertainment organizations and am looking forward to this new challenge and to contribute positively to the overall success of the company.”

Simon De Cesare, Chief Executive Officer of Eden Leisure Group added: “We are glad to welcome Carina to the Eden Leisure Group family. Her appointment is one of many exciting developments following a company-wide restructuring earlier this year and we are confident that she will be instrumental in building a comprehensive HR strategy while continuously strengthening the company’s human capital.”

    About the Eden Leisure Group:
The Eden Leisure Group Malta is renowned for setting the standards as well as revolutionizing the hospitality and entertainment sectors in Malta. With experience in the industry for over five decades, Eden Leisure Group continues to build an illustrious portfolio through exciting and innovative projects. Businesses that fall under the Eden Leisure Group umbrella include, Eden SuperBowl, 89.7 Bay, Eden Cinemas, Cynergi Health & Fitness Club, InterContinental Malta, Holiday Inn Express, Casino Malta by Olympic Casino and Quickfire.

  • In a two-fold bid to offer great cinematic content and also to continue in their commitment to help the environment, the Eden Leisure Group organized a free screening of the film: The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine at the Eden Cinemas. Viewers were not charged for their ticket, instead they were asked for a donation where all proceeds would go to Nature Trust. The event was a success and €720 was raised. All proceeds will be going towards building public awareness and protecting the recently laid turtle nest at Gnejna Bay.

Eden Leisure Group’s Director of Operations, Kate De Cesare said: “We are committed to being leaders in our field, both in terms of the services we offer but also in our commitment to doing our part for the environment. This we do by way of creating awareness and also greener practices within the company. By teaming up with Nature Trust on this latest initiative, we hope to have been able to contribute to building of public awareness of the conservation requirements needed for turtles to be able to flourish in our waters undisturbed.”

Vincent Attard, Executive President/CEO of Nature Trust said: “On behalf of Nature Trust I would like to thank Eden Leisure Group for this fantastic initiative and the funds they raised. This has come at the right time when our NGO is planning a major project related to the Wildlife Rehab centre where we are already saving and rehabilitating injured wildlife. In the past, Eden Leisure Group have helped our organisation in marine rescue, therefore we owe them a big thanks for choosing us for their new initiative yet again.

Turtles are an endangered species on an international level and face a wide variety of problems including pollution, marine litter, climate change and boat hits. Nature Trust rescues around 50 turtles a year found injured or sick in the Maltese waters and each turtle rehabilitation costs the NGO an average of €600-€1000. It is for these reasons that Eden Leisure Group has opted to partner with Nature Trust.

  • As part of the corporate partnership, staff from Eden Leisure Group were invited for a few rounds of golf at the Royal Malta Golf Club in Marsa. The event proved to be a fantastic team-building exercise, with each member of staff showing their great, or rather lack of, golfing skills in a fun-filled environment and which will surely continue to be remembered by all those present.

The session started off with coach Henning giving the staff information regarding the sport as a whole and how the game works. Following this, staff were introduced to, and were able to practice, a variety of golf shots and techniques including putting, short range shots, long range shots, and chipping. Mr Henning made the whole experience really worthwhile with his great personality, funny jokes, and constant patience with our beginners. After the golf session, staff were treated to drinks at the Royal Malta Golf Club where both proud and defeated employees reflected on their experience with large smiles and laughs all around.

“Our employees are the foundation of our company so we consider teamwork and team building activities to be of fundamental importance. It is always a pleasure watching the staff interact in fun out-of-work environments and I know that they will be bring this energy and enthusiasm back to workplace and create a more close-knit and stimulating environment. On behalf of Eden Leisure Group, I would like to express our wholehearted thanks to the Royal Malta Golf Club for their invitation.” said Simon De Cesare, CEO of Eden Leisure Group.

  • In keeping with its ongoing initiatives to adopt greener practices throughout the company, Eden Leisure Group’s latest strategy has been to invest in transparent bins & paper collectors to be used all throughout the organisation’s premises. These units aim to encourage greater recycling tendencies amongst all patrons and staff within the company.

The specially designed bodies of the bins ensure that all units are being used correctly. This design allows for the maximum level of recyclability for each and every unit. The company recommends the use of these bins to all persons that encounter them and not just employees.

“We are delighted to continue in our quest towards maintaining our reputation as a company which has the environment at heart. Here at Eden Leisure Group we have invested in several nationwide campaigns promoting awareness and encouraging people all over Malta to Gozo to be as eco-friendly as possible, so it is very important to us to know that we, our employees and customers can also do their part for our environment” says Kate DeCesare, Director of Operations at Eden Leisure Group.

Staff throughout the company are also being heavily encouraged to both reduce and reuse paper with all offices having recently been fitted with recyclable paper collectors. Manufactured from 100% recycled material, these compact, personal, desktop units are durable, waterproof and reusable to ensure that they can cut down on waste for many years to come. They also serve the purpose of encouraging the collection of recyclables for disposal in larger bins while replacing other individual waste bins. The paper collectors can also be found throughout the companies own business channels including Eden Cinemas, Eden Superbowl, 89.7 Bay and Cynergi Health & Fitness Club.

“We hope that other companies will also hop onto the bandwagon and make it their mission to make Malta greener and cleaner too - one paper or plastic bottle at a time” Kate DeCesare concluded.
