Out of twenty awards handed out, Eden Leisure Group received three for their innovative sustainability efforts at the “Zero Waste HoReCa Seed Funding Competition Awards, 2024.”
The competition centered around the transformative role of sustainability, in Malta’s tourism sector. The three entities, including Eden Cinemas and Cynergi Health & Fitness Club, and The Eden’s eatery, ‘Hangry’s’, each received a €500 grant to implement eco friendly initiatives within their operations, focusing on reducing waste and conserving resources.

An independent jury evaluated proposals based on environmental impact, sustainability performance, innovation, and social responsibility. Eden Cinemas, Cynergi Health & Fitness Club and Hangry’s excelled among 170 members of the Zero Waste HoReCa Network; Malta’s first sustainability-focused network for the hospitality sector.

This event was organised by the Cypriot NGO AKTI Project and Research Centre with support from The Coca-Cola Foundation. The awards ceremony took place on January 29, 2025, at the Birgu Local Council.
Dr. Xenia I. Loizidou, Chairperson of AKTI, stated: “AKTI is proud to recognise these businesses for their contributions to Malta’s green transition. Their commitment to sustainable practices demonstrates the economic and environmental benefits achievable within Malta’s tourism industry.”
