Showing exclusively at Eden Cinemas on the 5th October at 8.15pm, is Mozart’s beloved comic opera ‘Le Nozze Di Figaro’. Broadcasted live from the Royal Opera House in London, the acclaimed production is brought to the stage by the long-serving director Sir David McVicar. Starring in the humorous production is Royal Opera House favourite Erwin Schrott playing the role of Figaro, and the retuning soprano Anita Hartig playing Susanna. Conducted by Ivor Bolton and featuring the Royal Opera House Chorus and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Le Nozze Di Figaro is considered a revolutionary change from the standard operatic repertoire.
Le Nozze Di Figaro was the first creation of Mozart’s partnership with librettist Lorenzo da Ponte, which was an adaptation of Pierre Beaumarchais’ controversial play Le Mariage de Figaro. The story revolves around the excitement and preparation in anticipation of Figaro and Susanna’s wedding day, which is disrupted due to Figaro’s master, the married Count Almaviva. With his character based upon desires of infidelity with Susanna, he tries to stop their plans.
This production of Le Nozze Di Fiagro is set in French chateau in 1830, intensifying the underlying themes of class tension. The production covers all shades of emotion, from playfulness in ‘Non più andrai,’ to the deep desire in ‘Dove sono i bei momenti’. With such contrasting human desires featured in the performances, Le Nozze Di Figaro quickly joined the international repertory and is considered as one of Mozart’s finest works.
Further intensifying Mozart’s production is the enhanced sound and dimmed theatre lighting in Eden Cinemas’ multipurpose theatre. This provides the audience that authentic feel, as though watching the production for the Royal Opera House.
