On Wednesday 11th November, The PoutFest Tour LGBTIQ film festival, kicked off at The Eden Cinemas.

As part of its Side-Street Film concept, exhibiting alternative and non-mainstream films, the Eden Cinemas hosted a festival which was the first of its kind at their theaters. The Premiere movie featured the groundbreaking new film 52 Tuesdays. Those in attendance included Dr Helena Dalli, Minister for Social Dialogue, Consumer Affairs and Civil Liberties, representatives from the Allied Rainbow Community as well as many members of the general public and individuals from the LGBTIQ community. Every attendee was given a complimentary glass of Kinnie Kiss to enjoy in the newly created ‘lobby lounge’ before the movie started.

After the film, a live question and answer session was held with the award winning director Sophie Hyde.  The Skype session, which was projected onto the cinema screen, was moderated by Dr. Norman Shaw. The audience was given a once in a lifetime opportunity to interact and discuss matters related to the movie and its theme directly with its creator.

Through such initiatives, Eden Leisure Group hopes to further increase awareness, support and rights for the LGBTIQ community in Malta. Working with NGOs, government ministries and LGBTIQ support groups, they hope this festival will be mark the beginning of more niche, educational and alternative film content.
