The 27th edition of the Malta Open came to a close at the Eden SuperBowl last Sunday 17th June, as the organisers wrapped up on another successful tournament. The tournament was open to all bowlers who are members of National Bowling Associations, both in Malta and abroad and consisted of 12 qualifying games after which the final knockout stages were played.
A total of 91 competitors from 15 countries battled it out for the crown this year but in the end, Malta’s very own wonder woman – Sue Abela – was victorious. Sue Abela is no stranger to victory, having also won the tournament last year as well as in 2 other previous editions where males and females competed separately. The other finalist in this year’s final was Frenchman Julien Sermand who was also defeated by Ms Abela last year in the semifinals.
Rene Pace, General Manager at Eden SuperBowl said “This year’s Malta Open was very successful with strong competitors and close results adding to the excitement from the onset. With the number of competitors growing each year, we always look forward to hosting this tournament. The feedback we received from players and viewers was all positive with many players saying that they could not wait to return to the competition next year. We would like to congratulate Sue Abela on her latest win, she fought hard and her victory was well-deserved.”
